Air Canada will cooperate with the Canadian government’s plans resettle Syrian refugees in Canada, the company said Monday.

The Canadian Press reported Monday that the airliner contacted the Liberal government shortly after the election last month, offering to assist with transporting Syrian refugees to Canada, saying it has a window of opportunity before the Christmas rush.

When reached for comment, Air Canada told Grasswire the company has “offered to cooperate with the federal government to the fullest extent possible in any operation to transport Syrian refugees” but has so far “only exchanged preliminary information” with the government.

The Canadian Press said the flights would land in Beirut, where more than 1.4 million Syrian refugees reside, according to the U.N. Refugee Agency.

The Liberal government has pledged to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada by the end of 2015.
