At least 18 people have drowned in the Aegean sea after a boat sank off Didim in the western Turkish province of Aydın.

At least 25 people have drowned in the Aegean Sea after a boat sank off Didim in the western Turkish province of Aydın, Anadolu Agency said.

Three children are believed to be among those who died.

According to the Turkish Coast Guard, 15 people have been rescued and a search-and-rescue operation is still underway.

According to the district governor, the boat was heading for a Greek island.

The total number of people that were on the boat is not yet known.

On Feb. 8, 27 migrants drowned off the Turkish coast near the Edremit area of Balikesir province as they tried to reach the Greek island of Lesbos.
