Nine Injured After Train Derails in California

A commuter train derailed Monday evening in Sunol, California.

One of its cars fell into a creek. Authorities have confirmed nine people were injured, none of which are in a life-threatening condition. Earlier reports said 14 had been injured.

The Altamont Corridor Express train traveling from Silicon Valley to Stockton was carrying 214 passengers. The rail car remained partially submerged in the creek as passengers were rescued. Passengers without injuries were transported by bus to the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton.

The derailment was caused by a tree that had fallen onto the tracks.

Altamont Corridor Express has cancelled all train services for Tuesday.
