Major Rescue Underway After Boat Capsizes in Mediterranean

A major rescue operation was underway Friday for an undetermined number of migrants on board a semi-capsized boat in the Mediterranean south of Crete, Greek authorities said.

A major rescue operation was underway Friday for an undetermined number of migrants on board a semi-capsized boat in the Mediterranean south of Crete, Greek authorities said.

A coast guard spokesperson said five ship that were area are currently involved in the rescue operation, with three helicopters, two patrol vessels, a military airplane are en-route from Greece.

AP have reported at least 3 people have drowned and over 300 have been rescued.

The boat was found half-sunk about 75 nautical miles south of Crete in international waters. It is not know how many people had been on board the 82-98 foot (25-30 meter) boat.
