Turkey’s parliament approved a three month state of emergency in a 346-115 vote after an attempted coup July 15.
According to Deputy PM Mehmet Simsek, the state of emergency will be used to quickly act against the coup’s perpetrators. The rule of law will be upheld.
“We will use [the state of emergency] in a fashion closer to our allies like France and others,” Simsek said. “We owe it to our people to go after [the perpetrators]. We will have a legal framework for it.”
According to Simsek, there will be proper judicial review, but elaboration wasn’t provided.
