Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Westminster attack via its Amaq news agency. We do not know yet if the attacker recored a bayah – a pledge of allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi – which is the usual minimum requirement for an IS claim. Importantly, the claim does not name the attacker. The claim uses the usual phrasing regarding the attack. It calls the attacker a “soldier of the Caliphate” and says he responded to a call to attack countries participating in the anti-IS coalition.
