Kurdish Peshmerga say six Islamic State militants including a suicide bomber were killed at a cement factory near the Yazidi city of Sinjar, Iraq.

“One of the Da’esh militants was a suicide bomber. He detonated himself,” Sime Mohammed, a Peshmerga commander in Sinjar, told Kurdistan24.

Kurdistan24 characterised the incident as “an ambush.”

Sinjar Asayish (police) commander Qsim Smo said: “The militants came from Tal Afar and they wanted to cross into Syria from Shingal, but they fell into a Peshmerga ambush,” Rudaw reported.

However, Peshmerga commander Brig. Gen. Sme Bosali told Rudaw that after a local had been arrested by IS, Peshmerga were deployed near the cement factory and clashes broke out with six ISIS militants.

Bosali said a suicide bomber detonated himself, the rest of the IS militants were killed and the local was released.
