Times Square shut down after car crashes into pedestrians

Several people were injured after a car plowed into a sidewalk in Times Square.

New York City’s Times Square was shut down Thursday afternoon after a car struck a crowd of pedestrians shortly before noon.

According to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, one person is dead and 22 others are injured. Four are in critical condition, three are in non-critical condition, and the other 15 are in non-serious condition.

The driver has been identified as 26-year-old Richard Rojas from the Bronx, and has a history of driving under the influence. He was apprehended at the scene.

According to de Blasio, there is no indication of terrorism being involved.
