Iran launches missiles at ISIS in response to Tehran attacks

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps fired mid-range missiles at Islamic State targets in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor on Sunday, June 18 in response to the deadly attacks in Tehran earlier this month.

The IRGC said in a statement it fired mid-range surface-to-surface missiles from the western Kermanshah and Kurdistan provinces in Iran. The missiles hit Islamic State “command headquarters,” killing many of the militants and destroying their “equipment, systems and weapons,” according to the statement.

Haaretz reported it was Iran’s first use of mid-range missiles since the Iran-Iraq war, which ended in 1988.

The IRGC warned:

“The message of the revolutionary and punishing move is totally clear; IRGC is sending a warning to the Takfiri terrorists and their regional and extra-regional sponsors that if the evil and satanic measures against the Iranian nation are repeated, the revolutionary anger and flames of IRGC’s revenge will engulf the perpetrators and lead the criminals to hell.”
