Syria: US Coalition says reports of 10-year deal with the YPG are false

A spokesperson for the US-led Coalition told Grasswire that reports of a deal between the US and the Syrian Kurdish YPG are false.

A spokesperson for the US-led Coalition told Grasswire on Sunday, June 18, that reports of a deal between the US and the Syrian Kurdish YPG are false.

The reports appear to have originated on a Manbij news website.

The purported 10-year deal affirmed a US-YPG partnership until 2027. In exchange for US support, military equipment and assistance in turning the SDF into a modern, fully operational army for the Federation of Northern Syria, the YPG would protect US military personnel and bases and prevent attacks on “neighbouring countries” from its territories.

The US began supplying arms and equipment to Kurdish YPG and YPJ units within the SDF on May 30.
