Gunman kills one, injures six at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York City

A gunman opened fire on Friday, June 30 at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York City killing one person and injuring six others, before turning the gun on himself. NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said the gunman was found by police on 17th floor, dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds. He was wearing a white, medical type coat and an assault rifle was found nearby. One woman was found dead on 17th floor. Six other people were found injured on 16th floor. Five were seriously injured and one was injured in the leg. Police have not yet identified the subject, but O’Neill said he is a former employee of the hospital. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said the incident appears to be isolated. The FBI’s New York office tweeted that the NYPD is handling the shooting and confirmed that there is “no nexus to terrorism.” An unnamed police source told Associated Press that at around 14:50 the gunman pulled a weapon from beneath a lab coat and opened fire, hitting several people, before turning the gun on himself. This has not been confirmed from official sources.
