A spokesperson for the US-led Coalition told Grasswire on Monday, September 11 that it did not conduct airstrikes against regime forces near Deir ez-Zor, Syria, contrary to claims made by several news outlets.

Sky News Arabia claimed that Coalition aircraft struck a military convoy of Syrian regime and allied forces near the Altim oil field, east of Deir ez-Zor, killing a number of troops and destroying vehicles. The Turkey-based pro-opposition news website Qasioun also reported the claim.

“These accusations are false. The Coalition did not conduct airstrikes against Regime forces near Abu Kamal or Dayr Az Zawr Sept. 11.”

The Coalition is supporting Operation Jazeera Storm, an offensive against ISIS in the east of the Khabur valley area led by Deir Ezzor Military Council, a mainly Arab group from the region, and backed by the SDF and the US-led Coalition.

This means that ISIS now faces advances from east and west of the Euphrates, as Syrian government and allied forces continue to push from the west. Government troops on September 5 broke through ISIS lines, ending the three-year siege in the western part of the city which is divided by the Euphrates river.
