A large blast was reported to Leicestershire Fire and Rescue at around 7pm. According to Leicestershire Police, businesses and homes near the scene were evacuated.
“We were en route when the police called to say a building had collapsed,” a Leicestershire Fire and Rescue spokesperson told Sky News. “This is a search and rescue at the moment. It is unknown if people are injured or trapped.”
That building was a two-story structure with a loft conversion that the spokesperson confirmed suffered a “pancake collapse.” No indication was given on the cause of the blast, but Leicestershire Police has said that terrorism isn’t a factor.
