Al-Qaeda Praises Mali Hotel Attack

Gunmen attacked the Azalai Hotel Nord-Sud in Mali's capital, Bamako, which serves as the headquarters of EUTM Mali.

Gunmen attacked a hotel in the Malian capital Bamako Monday.

The attack took place at the Azalai Hotel Nord-Sud, which serves as the headquarters of the European Union Training Mission in Mali. The organization deploys around 200 instructors in Bamako who train the Malian armed forces.

According to EUTM Mali’s Facebook page, one of the gunmen died during the assault but none of its staff or civilians were killed.

According to Interior Security Minister Colonel Salif Traore, a sack the dead assailant was carrying is being examined for the presence of explosives. Two suspects were arrested, and are being interrogated.

Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, the terror group’s north African branch, praised the attack in a social media post.
