Doctors at a Brussels hospital have shown the media and Belgium’s Royal Family pieces of metal shrapnel that they recovered from some of the Brussels terror attack victims.
The twisted fragments of metal, screws and nails caused horrific injuries in many of the people who survived the suicide bomb attacks at Brussels Zaventem International Airport and Maelbeek metro station on Tuesday.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde inspected the metal shrapnel on Thursday during a visit to Gasthuisberg hospital in Louvain.
At least 31 people were killed in the attacks and around 300 people were injured. 150 people are still in hospital, 61 are in a critically condition and remain in intensive care.
