Students in Boston Public Schools have staged a walkout to protest a proposed budget cut that reaches into the multi-million dollar range.
The walkout began at 11:30 a.m. Monday, when thousands of students gathered in Boston Common to march to the State House. They continued their march to Faniuel Hall, where Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker were holding a press conference on the Forbes Under 30 Summit.

The walkout is part of a national movement organized by The Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools, which says they work with communities to fight for educational justice and access to school resources. The organization worked with students to coordinate the walkout.

Upon hearing of the upcoming protest last week, school officials sent a letter to students’ homes to encourage parents to keep students in the classrooms.
