Brazil’s Supreme Court denied a motion to block an impeachment vote against President Dilma Rousseff, Reuters reported.
In a session that ran into the early hours of Friday morning, the court decided in an 8-2 decision to dismiss Rousseff’s last-minute attempt of avoiding impeachment.

Rousseff is facing impeachment for a corruption scandal stemming from the 2014 election and has been accused of manipulating government budgets to win re-election.
The lower house of parliament votes on Sunday, where two-thirds of the 513 house members will need to approve impeachment to send it to the Senate.
Rui Falcao, the leader of Rousseff’s Workers’ Party, expressed concerns of chaos if Rousseff is ousted.
“It’s a mistake to think that overthrowing a government will bring stability, peace, security and development. Not respecting the popular vote will plunge this country into chaos,” Falcao stated.
