The Gambia’s former President Yahya Jammeh, who was ousted during the December 2016 elections, following over two decades in power, decided to step down after an army from neighboring Senegal and other African nations, entered the country in attempts to remove him and place elected President Adama Barrow in power.
It is believed that Jammeh was offered asylum in Equatorial Guinea. Barrow told the BBC television, that he would help create a reconciliation committee to investigate Jammeh’s human rights violations in the 22 years he had been in power.
