The Guardian Council approved four additional candidates: Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri; Ebrahim Raisi, a member of the Assembly of Experts (Majles-e Khobregan-e Rahbari); Tehran mayor Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf; former culture minister Mostafa Mirsalim; and reformist politician Mostafa Hashemitaba.
Ahmadinejad’s former vice president, Hamid Baghaei, was also reportedly disqualified.
The vetted candidates are only a small number of the 1,636 who registered to run in the May 19 election.
