Family and friends remember the Manchester Arena victims

The 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena bombing on May 22 included young girls, teenagers and other people who attended a concert.

Police confirmed that 22 people were killed and 59 others injured in a bombing at the Manchester Arena on Monday, May 22. The victims included young girls, teenagers and other people who attended a concert by the American pop singer Ariana Grande.

On Wednesday morning, officials said they were confident they had identified everyone killed in the attack.

Georgina Callender

The first victim of the attack was identified on Tuesday as Georgina Bethany Callander.

Runshaw College, where the 18-year old was studying health and social care, said in a statement on Tuesday: “Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to all of Georgina’s friends, family, and all of those affected by this loss.”

Saffie Roussos

The second victim named was eight-year-old Saffie Roussos, who was at the concert with her mother and sister. Her mother, Lisa, and sister Ashlee were both injured in the attack.

John Atkinson

John Atkinson from Bury was the third victim named. Friends and family said on social media the 26-year old was an “amazing young man” and “a beautiful soul.”

Megan Hurley

A fourth victim was identified on Tuesday night as Megan Hurley. Her older brother was injured in the bombing, the Liverpool Echo reported.

Alison Howe and Lisa Lees

Alison Howe and Lisa Lees were on Tuesday night confirmed to be among the dead. The two women, both from Oldham, were waiting together in the foyer for their daughters to leave the concert and had been reported missing.

A friend of both women said: “Alison Howe was the first person to talk to me and make me feel welcome … you were gorgeous wonderful woman and Lisa Lees what can I say, beautiful inside and out.”

Olivia Campbell

Early Wednesday, 15-year old Olivia Campbell‘s mother said her “darling precious gorgeous girl” had been confirmed dead. Campbell was reported missing soon after the attack. She attended the concert with her friend Adam Lawler, who was hospitalized.

Angelika and Marcin Klis

Poland’s foreign minister confirmed on Wednesday morning that Angelika and Marcin Klis were killed the in attack. The couple had been waiting for their two daughters, who were attending the concert.

Martyn Hett

A friend of Martyn Hett confirmed the 29-year old died in the attack: “We got the news last night that our wonderful iconic and beautiful Martyn didn’t survive.”

Kelly Brewster

The uncle of 32-year old Kelly Brewster said she shielded her 11-year old niece when the bomb went off. Her niece, Hollie, survived but has two broken legs. Kelly’s sister Claire, who was also at the concert, was hospitalized with a broken jaw.

Her partner wrote on Facebook:

“Not sure how this works but it isn’t good news. Kelly Brewster wasn’t one of the unidentified hospital patients. She has sadly passed away in the terror attack yesterday.”

Nell Jones

Holmes Chapel Comprehensive and Sixth Form school in Cheshire said on Wednesday that 14-year old Nell Jones was killed in the attack. Nell went to the concert with her friend Freya Lewis, whose injuries required surgery.

ITV quoted her teacher as saying: “Nell was a very popular girl, always smiling, always positive. Her tutor group have been together since the transition from primary school. It feels like they have lost a sister not a classmate.”

Jane Tweddle-Taylor

Jane Tweddle-Taylor, a school receptionist, was identified by her colleagues. South Shore academy principal Jane Bailey said the school was devastated by the loss of “a well-loved member of staff” and “a truly wonderful friend and colleague.”

The 51-year old was a mother of three children and was picking up the daughter of a friend from the concert in Manchester.

Sorrel Leczkowski

Sorrel Leczkowski’s aunt identified her as one of the victims of the attack. 14-year old Sorrel attended the concert with her sister, mother and grandmother.

Her sister was not injured, their mother remains in the hospital and their grandmother has been unconscious since the attack.

Sorrel lived in Leeds and was a student at Allerton High School.

Elaine McIver

Cheshire Police confirmed that an off-duty officer was among the victims: “Cheshire Police is now in a position to confirm that sadly one of our female officers tragically died while off-duty at the Manchester Arena on Monday 22 May. Unfortunately, we are not able to release any further details at the stage.”

The officer’s family later identified her as Elaine McIver, “a much-loved daughter, sister, Auntie, friend and colleague, the best we could ever have wished for.”

Elaine was at the arena with her husband Paul, who was hospitalized in critical condition.

Michelle Kiss

Michelle Kiss, a mother of three from Clitheroe, was identified as one of the victims, ITV news reported.

Her family issued a statement through the Greater Manchester Police: “Michelle Kiss was a loving wife to Tony, mother to Dylan, Elliot and Millie, as well as daughter to Mick and Christine and sister to Nichola … Family was her life and we are all obviously devastated by her loss.”

Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry

Family members confirmed through Greater Manchester Police that Chloe Rutherford, 17, and Liam Curry, 19, were killed in the attack.

The couple’s family said: “On the night our daughter Chloe died and our son Liam died, their wings were ready but our hearts were not.”

Chloe worked for Westoe Travel where she was set to begin an apprenticeship next month. Her family said she loved to travel and explore new cities with Liam.

Friends at the Marsden Cricket Club remembered Liam as a “strong and mature young man” who helped his family after his father, Andy, died suddenly this year. Liam was a student at Northumbria University, where he studied exercise science.

Wendy Fawell

On Thursday, Wendy Fawell, a former primary school teacher from West Yorkshire, was confirmed to be among the victims.

Her family had been searching for her since the explosion, which reportedly hit as Wendy, her sons, 15-year old daughter Charlotte, and a friend were about to leave the concert. Charlotte was hospitalized and Wendy’s friend Caroline was seriously injured.

Courtney Boyle and Philip Tron

The Telegraph reported that Philip Tron, 32, took his stepdaughter Courtney Boyle, 19, to the concert as a surprise. They were both reported missing after the explosion and family members confirmed on Thursday that they were killed.

Courtney’s mother, Deborah Hutchinson, said: “My stunning amazing beautiful daughter you were my rock you made me so proud with all you had achieved and my gorgeous crazy Philip you made my world a happy place and now you are both my angels flying high in the sky.”

Eilidh MacLeod

Eilidh MacLeod, from Barra in Scotland, attended the concert with her friend Laura MacIntyre. Laura, 15, was seriously injured in the bombing and Eilidh was confirmed on Thursday to have died.

The 14-year old’s parents said: “Eilidh was vivacious and full of fun. She loved all music whether it was listening to Ariana or playing the bagpipes with her pipe band.”
