Netherlands parliamentary election: Live updates

Polls have closed in the Netherlands in elections for the country's lower house of Parliament.

Polls have closed in the Netherlands in elections for all 150 seats in the country’s lower house of Parliament. A simple majority of 76 votes is required to govern.

Early exit polling from Dutch national broadcaster NOS suggests a lead for Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s center-right VVD party, followed by Geert Wilders’ far-right populist PVV party, conservative party Christian Democratic Action, and the center-left pro-European party Democrats 66.

Turnout was 82 percent, a mark as high as it has been in decades.

Amid fears of hacking and outside interference, all vote tallying will be done by hand.

Stay tuned to the liveblog below for updates as they come throughout the evening.
