Albuquerque Cop Dies One Week After Being Shot by Ex-Convict Ex-Convict

A New Mexico police officer has died more than one week after being shot while on duty.

Officer Dan Webster with the Albuquerque Police Department died late Wednesday evening, sources told ABC affiliate KOAT-TV.

The news was confirmed by the law enforcement agency Thursday afternoon. “We fell one miracle short,” Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry said at a press conference.

Webster, a decorated police officer who had been with the force for nine years, was shot by an ex-convict while conducting a traffic stop near a pharmacy last Wednesday.

Police said David Lymon, 34, shot at Webster as he fled while being handcuffed. Lymon was described by authorities as a career criminal who had an extensive record of legal trouble. He plead guilty to a manslaughter charge more than a decade ago, the Associated Press reported.
