Bangkok Police Announce Arrest of Primary Bombing Suspect

Thailand’s National Police announced they arrested the primary suspect in last month’s deadly bombing at the Erawat shrine in Bangkok. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said the suspect was arrested at the Sa Kaeo checkpoint with Cambodia.

Police have not yet released the suspect’s name or nationality, but Chanocha confirmed reports that he is a foreigner. He is the second foreigner arrested in connection with the bombing.

National Police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said the suspect appears “similar” to a man captured by CCTV footage at the scene of the attack.

Reuters reported police have issued arrest warrants for three other men for “possessing bomb making material.” A total of eight people are now wanted in connection to the attack.

20 people, mostly ethnic Chinese tourists, were killed in the attack.

Thai police on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for a Turkish national for possession of “war materials.” They have named the suspect as Emrah Davutoglu.
